Expert Advice on Staining Concrete Floors

The Steam Team is staffed with experts that have years of hands-on experience with all kinds of cleaning, restoration and remodelling services, including concrete staining. If you’re looking for advice or just a basic understanding on concrete floor staining, you came to the right place. Is concrete staining really worth it? And how should you go about doing it? Here’s our advice.

Benefits of Staining

One of the most obvious benefits to having a stained concrete floor is the easy maintenance level. In fact, stained concrete floors are the longest-lasting flooring option you can choose. That’s because unlike other floors, stained concrete does not crack, chip or peel. Besides occasionally wiping it with a damp cloth, your floor won’t require much upkeep.

Do you prefer for your floor to have the sleek look of marble? Or what about the homely look of a wood floor? Or stone tile? Whatever your preference, concrete staining can create the appearance of any of these options, and many more! It also just happens to be much cheaper than these other flooring options. That means you get the ideal look for a fraction of the price!

The Professional Method

Staining a concrete floor is no easy feat, and may take you hours to do on your own, not to mention the time it takes to purchase all the products and equipment needed for the job, and the hours spent researching to make sure you’re doing it right. For many people who want to stain their concrete floors, professional help is the way to go.

Here at The Steam Team, we have expert, dedicated technicians ready for any concrete staining job. They’ll utilize the most effective and powerful equipment to get the job done in a small fraction of the time it would take the average homeowner to do alone. A Few Great Tips For Keeping Natural Stone Clean

Marble Cleaning

Marble Cleaning

The authentic, beautiful look of natural stone makes a great addition to any home or business. Whether you use it as flooring, a countertop or even as your walls, there’s nothing quite like the look of natural stone. As with any flooring, countertop, wall or any other surface, natural stone has its own unique maintenance needs. Here at The Steam Team, we have professionals with all the expertise on how to clean your home or business, so today, we’re going to talk about how to best clean natural stone.

First Steps

If you’re cleaning the stone yourself, here are a few simple tasks you can start with. Sweeping and some light mopping are a great way to clean the surface. If you must use a vacuum rather than a broom, make sure there are no cracked or broken parts on the bottom of the vacuum that could damage your stone. When you mop the stone, just be sure you’re using a cleaning solution that is approved for natural stone. These simple first steps will make a big difference.

Intermediate Cleaning

Now for the more detailed stuff. This involves stain removal and grout cleaning, which is far too often neglected, leaving the grout to build up with dirt and damage the floor, or leaving stains that never go away. When it comes to this step, remember again to only use products approved for natural stone.

Thorough Professional Cleaning

When you need to deeply clean your natural stone (maybe the grout and stains are just too difficult for the methods you’re using), call in a professional. Here at The Steam Team we have all the right equipment and expertise for the job. And you can rest assured that when The Steam Team cleans your floors (or other surfaces), you won’t have to worry about your natural stone being damaged. So what are you waiting for? Visit The Steam Team website and give us a call today.

When it comes to the upkeep of marble, we have enough experience and expertise to treat any marble countertop, column, floor, or any other surface. That’s why we’ve decided to share some helpful information on how to take great care of the marble surfaces in your home:

Understanding Marble Polishing

When it comes to polishing marble surfaces, you need to know what signs to look out for that tell you when it’s time to have your marble polished. Marble is a sensitive material, especially when it comes to anything acidic. If it has sustained damage to the protective seal, you’ll want it to be polished as soon as possible. If the marble appears more dull or dirty in some areas, or the shine seems to be gone and it won’t go back to normal by simply wiping with a damp cloth, the protective seal may be damaged. If the seal isn’t replaced soon, the exposed marble could easily be damaged even more. Experts say you should have your marble sealed every two to three years, though the best maintained marble surfaces could hold out for four or five years.

Professional Polishing With The Steam Team

As stated before, marble is sensitive to anything acidic, meaning many common household cleaners or home-made methods will only damage marble. Only specifically designed marble polishers should be used. If you don’t want to search for these products and go through the process of polishing the marble yourself, give us a call! Our professional technicians will use our very own line of marble polishing products to give you the very best results that only a professional can give.

The Benifits Of Professional Marble & Travertine Polishing

Marble is a beautiful but sensitive material used to make all kinds of things like countertops, floors, columns, vanities and much more. If you have marble in your home, you probably want to take the very best care of it that you can. But how should you go about maintaining your marble? With years of experience in marble care under our belt, The Steam Team is here to tell you!

Choosing Professional Polishing

Caring for the marble in your home may prove to be a bit tricky. That’s because marble surfaces tend to be sensitive to anything acidic, including foods like citrus or sodas, as well as many common store-bought cleaning products and DIY cleaning solutions. Marble is also more porous, meaning it can scratch and get lasting marks easier than many other surfaces. For these reasons, we suggest professional marble polishing with only verified products meant specifically for marble. Putting the job in the hands of professionals also means you’ll get the best possible polish without the risks of scratching or damaging the marble, which might occur if you attempt the job yourself. Now that you know you should have your marble surfaces professionally polished, you just have to choose the right company for the service. That’s where we come in.

The Steam Team

When looking for the best marble polishers with years of experience and the right equipment, look no further than The Steam Team! To ensure that your marble floors, countertops, vanities, shower walls or whatever else achieves the best polish possible, we have our own line of marble polishing products to meet your specific needs. Caring for Marble Surfaces: A Guide from The Experts

Marble flooring sparkles and shines throughout a home, creating a unique appeal other floorings can’t. For centuries it’s been used in flooring, countertops, and other surfaces around the home- but if you’ve installed marble, you probably know that it takes work to maintain that perfect sleek look. Unfortunately, the material of marble is far more sensitive than other flooring options, so taking care to ensure you’re treating it properly is imperative. Today, we’ve put together some tips and tricks to keep your marble looking brand new and better than ever.

All About Marble Polishing

After a few years of owning a marble floor, you may start to notice that it doesn’t look quite the same as it did when you first got it. Maybe it has dull or dirty patches, or is generally less shiny than it once was. These are all signs that the marble needs to be polished, and that the protective seal may have been worn down, making the marble more sensitive to spills or other damage. To keep this from happening, a good rule of thumb is to have your marble floors polished every one to three years. The most well maintained floors may only need to be polished every five years.

Hiring The Steam Team

It’s important to remember that marble is a sensitive material, and can’t handle most common household cleaners, or anything acidic. For this reason, we suggest leaving the marble polishing up to professionals like The Steam Team technicians to prevent your floor from being damaged. Our technicians will only use products that are specifically designed for marble polishing. In fact, we happen to have our own full line of products designed for marble floor tile. Our professional technicians will use the best products and methods to restore your marble floor to its original shine.

Understanding Carpet Cleaners And Where To Use Them

Here at The Steam Team in Austin, through our years of working with carpet cleaners to provide professional, top-notch cleaning services, we’ve learned a lot about these machines. We’ve written this blog for you to help you understand a little bit more about how steam cleaners work, and what surfaces they work best on.

The Benefits

There are many obvious benefits of cleaning your home with the best carpet cleaners, which are entirely water and heat based. Since no chemicals are used, you won’t have to worry about the negative effects that chemical cleaners can have on some surfaces like marble. You also won’t have to worry about the health risks that some store-bought chemical cleaners bring. Carpet cleaners kill 99.99% of bacteria, and dry up quickly since the water evaporates after sanitizing the surface. Steam cleaners are also excellent at cleaning more tough to reach spots and can even removed hardened substances like wax or glue.

Which Surfaces Can They Clean?

Carpet cleaning is wonderful for nearly every surface of the home, but for some you’ll need to use specific attachments to avoid damaging the material. Carpets, upholstery, mattresses and curtains can all be steam cleaned, but you’ll need to make sure you use the upholstery attachment. There’s also a floor attachment that you’ll need to use if you plan on steam cleaning your floors, tiles, ceramic and metal fixtures. With the right attachments, steam cleaning can easily kill germs, mold and fungus on any surface. The only surfaces that can’t be steam cleaned under any circumstances are cardboard, paper products, delicate fabrics or anything with water-based paint.

The Steam Team

Carpet cleaning is one thing, but having a high-powered steam cleaner in the hands of a trained Steam Team professional is another thing entirely. If you want your home to be absolutely as clean as possible, give the steam team a call and let our technicians handle your steam cleaning needs. For more information, visit The Steam Team website.

Tile and Grout Cleaning: The Professional Method

What if we told you there’s a better way to get in between tiles than the ol’ toothbrush? Here at The Steam Team we think there is. Our technicians will utilize the right tools for the job to give you newly cleaned tile floors in no time! Here’s how it works:

Inspection and Prep

When you’ve called in our technicians to clean your tile and grout or carpet cleaning, they’ll start off with a full and thorough inspection of your entire tile floor, locating all problem areas and deciding on the best solutions. All furniture over the tile surface will be moved and the tile will be sealed off from any carpet, hardwood, or other material.

Cleaning

All dry soil will be removed by sweeping and vacuuming before a high quality cleaning agent will be sprayed over the entire surface of the tile. We use only the most scientifically advanced tile cleaner on the market. The tile and grout will then be cleaned using a self-contained pressure cleaning system, while more difficult areas will require either a manual brush cleaning or a mechanical, rotating brush.

Rinse and Finish

Finally, a rinse solution will be pumped through the machine, fully sanitizing the floor. Then a finish will be applied to fully seal your newly cleaned floor. The finish will vary depending on your type of tile. And before they leave, our technicians will have one last walk-through inspection to ensure that you’re satisfied with the results.

If you’re done cleaning your tile and grout the hard way, why not give The Steam Team a call? For more information on our many other services, visit The Steam Team website.

How You Can Protect Your Carpet

Here at The Steam Team, we’re always looking for ways to keep carpet cleaner. Sometimes we can even do this without steam cleaning, although we always recommend having your carpet deep cleaned every so often. But until then, let’s look at three different ways you can protect your carpet from wear and tear!

Remove Shoes at the Entrance

This is among the most simple things you can do to protect your carpet: remove yours and everyone else’s shoes at the entrance to your home. You can purchase a decorative basket or shoe rack for the shoes to stay while you have guests over! Turn this simple way of protecting your carpet into a fun and easy DIY project.

Decorate With Area Rugs

Area rugs are another great way we can protect our carpet from wear and tear! We’re not saying you should cover all of your carpet. Just maybe those areas that receive the highest amount of foot traffic, like entryways, hallways, and living rooms. Lay area rugs down to prevent more wear and tear, and enjoy decorating your home while you do it!

Deep Clean Your Carpet

Eliminate stains and signs of wear and tear by having your carpet deep cleaned occasionally! A professional-grade steam cleaning machine, like the ones we have here at The Steam Team, are powerful enough to extract dirt and grime from the fibers of your carpet, but gentle enough not to harm the carpet itself! So if it’s been a while since your carpet has seen the professionals, give The Steam Team a call. We have plenty of experience in both protecting and cleaning carpet; you’ll be amazed by our results!

Don’t hesitate. Give The Steam Team a call today. They’ll provide a clean that you can truly trust, and one that will last a while, too!

Protecting Carpet 101

Carpet is one of the most widely used types of flooring, but it’s also one of the most easily ruined. This is often due to the lack of maintenance over the years because many homeowners don’t realize how tiny dirt particles get stuck deep into the carpet fibers and they end up causing damage when they’re moved around from foot traffic. That’s why we’re here to help educate you on the best way to care for your carpet!

Start With Carpet Padding

First thing’s first: make sure your carpet has the proper padding underneath. Carpet padding increases longevity in your carpet by absorbing the shock of human foot traffic. It protects your carpets binding and backing and makes your carpet much softer to walk upon.

Finish With Carpet Protectant

If you’re installing new carpet, just after it’s laid- don’t forget the protectant! It’ll add an extra layer of protection between your foot traffic and your carpet fibers before there’s any chance for damage.

If you’re dealing with older carpet, call in the professionals to take a look and see if you could benefit from carpet protectant. It helps to keep the tiny dirt and grime particles from causing any damage beneath the surface of your carpet.

Thorough Cleaning and Maintenance

Aside from regular, weekly (or bi-weekly, depending on how heavy your foot traffic is) cleanings, are the semi-annual thorough (read: professional) cleanings. We recommend steam cleaning because of how easily it extracts dirt and debris from carpet, leaving little moisture behind- and absolutely no residue. The Steam Team recommends steam cleaning once a year, but if your carpet endures extra foot traffic, or you have a few stains you’d like to finally clean up, twice a year could be sufficient.

If you’re ready for a professional carpet cleaning or need the professionals to take a look at your carpet, give us a call today. We’re always here to help!

Disinfectant Electrostatic Cleaning From The Steam Team

Do you clean your home or business in the Austin area by yourself with standard house cleaners? If so, you’re probably doing a fine job, but you might not be able to achieve a complete clean. Thousands of harmful microbial organisms will still be lurking around, unless of course you call in The Steam Team. We have an anti-microbial process that involves a powerful disinfectant, light-activated coating and electrostatic application that will rid your property of these harmful organisms.

Our process will start with our technicians showing up to apply a mist-like EPA approved solution that is completely non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and safe for pets and children. This solution will be applied to every accessible surface in the building, and works on any material, porous or non-porous.

The thing that keeps most cleaners from dealing with germs effectively is the protective layer around the germ called the “biofilm”. The biofilm protects the germ and allows it to double every twenty minutes or so. Our process will break down this biofilm quickly, and without any toxic chemicals.

Our next step will be to use a powerful deodorizer. This will neutralize any traces of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, gasoline and formaldehyde, eliminating any odors that come with them such as the smell of cigarettes, pet urine, feces, skunk and decay.

The last step in the process is to ensure lasting protection for your newly disinfected property. That’s why our professionals will apply a microbiostatic antimicrobial coating to your surfaces, using our electrostatic spraying process, ensuring 90 days of protection. This coating will fight microbial growth and control bacteria and germs.

So if you need your home fully disinfected, you need The Steam Team’s process. For more information on electrostatic cleaning, steam cleaning, fire and water damage restoration, or any of our many other services, please visit The Steam Team website.

Have you ever heard of marble polishing? It’s a great way to change up the look of your marble! Marble may look sturdy and durable, but it’s actually quite delicate! What is Marble Polishing?

To put it simply, marble polishing helps to reverse the damage of wear and tear on your marble surfaces and flooring! The treatment that is used is pure and tested, and doesn’t involve any artificial coatings! It helps to bring back that shine you remember from your marble’s “younger days!”

As always, for best results, contact your local cleaning and restoration company (like The Steam Team) for a polishing you can trust, one that’s installed correctly and efficiently, and one that will last you a really long time!

When Should You Polish Your Marble?

So, when should marble be polished? Well, it’s pretty simple: just keep an eye out for dull spots or scratches. Or, when you’re cleaning your marble flooring or surface, is it difficult to keep it clean? If this is true, it may be time for a good old fashioned marble polishing, friends!

Until the professionals come out to polish your marble, keep it clean by dry dusting, mopping, and using only cleaning supplies that are safe for marble.

Marble Polishing 101: Call in the Professionals

Marble is a natural material that is used to produce beautiful kitchen countertops, tile floors, marble bathroom vanities, marble wall tile and even columns. If you have marble in your home, you probably want to do everything in your power to take the very best care of it and ensure that it stays clean and undamaged. If you follow our advice carefully, you’ll be able to do just that!

Why Professionals?

When it comes to any home cleaning, the job will almost always be done better with the help of professionals. This is especially the case when it comes to marble polishing. If you’re wondering why, it’s because marble can be rather tricky to clean and maintain.

When you’re cleaning or polishing other surfaces, you might be able to just buy any generic product or use your own DIY concoction, this is not the case with marble. That is because marble is more sensitive to acid than other surfaces, making it more sensitive to cleaning products and even some foods that contain acid like citrus products and sodas. Marble is also softer and more porous than other stone, meaning it scratches and etches much more easily than other surfaces might. For these reasons, marble requires great care- and you can never go wrong with a professional!

When it comes to marble polishing, you won’t find anyone that does it quite like The Steam Team! Luckily for you and for your marble, The Steam Team has their own complete line of products for marble floor tile, marble countertops, marble vanities and even shower walls. How Does Cleaning Effect Hardwood Flooring?

Do you have hardwood flooring in your home? Perhaps it’s cleaning day, and you’re wondering which method you should use! While we usually promote steam cleaning as the number one method of cleaning, we won’t be doing that this time around! In fact, hardwood flooring is a naturally absorbent material, and since steam cleaning uses a lot of water, it can cause a lot of damage. Let’s take a look at what exactly happens when we steam clean hardwood floors.

What is Steam Cleaning?

First, let’s explain how steam cleaning, or hot water extraction, is used to tidy up our homes. It uses nothing but hot water and extreme pressure to eradicate dirt, dust, grime- you name it! It extracts these nasty materials from many different types of flooring and surfaces- carpet, natural stone, tile, and even the infamous, hard-to-reach grout! It’s completely safe for the environment and won’t leave behind any residue at all. This is why we typically encourage you to steam clean your home!

How Does Steam Cleaning Effect Hardwood Flooring?

Hardwood flooring is simply too absorbent! A steam cleaner’s vapor can reach deep down into cracks and crevices of flooring, but when it’s used on hardwood flooring, it can cause many problems in the future, such as warping, molding, or plumping. We certainly don’t want your beautiful hardwood floors to be damaged, so it’s wise to use a different method (and yes- even try to avoid steam cleaners that are “safe,” for hardwood floors; you just never know!).

If your floors are looking dull and your normal cleaning routine is no longer cutting it, contact The Steam Team! We have the best products available to clean and restore your hardwood floors to their original condition without harming them. So don’t hesitate- give us a call today!

Cleaning Floors

Cleaning Floors

Are you having trouble keeping your floor looking clean and bright these days? Well don’t worry; we’re here to help! The Steam Team has years of experience in brightening up flooring, restoring damaged flooring, and even installing new flooring! But today we’re going to discuss several ways in which we can bright our floors, no matter what material it’s made of!

Tile Flooring

Steam cleaning is your best bet for cleaning tile flooring, as it reaches deep within the pores of grout, and erases stains and discoloration from tile, brightening your flooring. But if you don’t have a steam cleaner, can’t find one to rent, or haven’t called the professionals, you can also use a scrub brush and a formulated tile cleaner.

Carpet Flooring

Vacuuming is the best thing you can do for your carpet. Not only does it pick up dust, dirt, dander, and other substances, but it also keeps the carpet fibers from becoming matted and worn down. Vacuum at least once weekly to keep your carpet in tip top shape- and looking its best!

Natural Stone Flooring

It’s time to grab your mop, water bucket, and all purpose cleaner! After you’ve swept and vacuumed your floor, dip a microfiber cloth into a solution of warm water and your favorite cleaner (or the manufacturer's recommendation). Clean the floor thoroughly, ringing out the mop and changing the water whenever it becomes murky. Your floor will look nice and bright when you’re finished!

Choosing the Best Rug Cleaning Method Austin Texas

Rug Cleaning Austin

Rug Cleaning Austin

When you set out to clean your rugs, you have a decision to make. Which method of cleaning should you choose? Shampooing, steam cleaning, dry cleaning? Another method? There are several options when it comes to rug cleaning, and below we’ll review each one- so you can easily make a decision when you’re cleaning your flooring! We hope this helps for all your rug cleaning needs in Austin, Texas!

Shampooing

Shampooing involves scrubbing your carpet in a circular motion, using liquid detergent. The foam that’s produced from the detergent absorbs dirt and debris and is vacuumed away after drying! Shampooing also helps with carpet odors, and you can buy or rent a machine to do the heavy work for you.

Foam Cleaning

While this isn’t the best method for removing stains, it works well for removing dirt from your carpet. A machine is used to stir foam into the carpet fibers. This foam picks up dirt, dust, dander, and other debris, leaving your carpet clean and fresh again. Only a small amount of water is used.

Dry Carpet Cleaning

In this process, a machine uses rotating absorbent pads to extract oils and debris from areas in the carpet that are stained. So if you’ve got a nasty one hiding underneath the couch, you might want to break out the dry carpet cleaning machine!

Steam Cleaning

When it comes to your carpet, The Steam Team strongly recommends choosing to steam clean. A professional-grade steam cleaner easily extracts debris from deep within your carpet fibers,  using nothing but hot water and intense pressure. Steam cleaning is 100% safe for the environment, your pets, and your family. And it leaves no residue behind, and very little moisture. Your carpet will dry remarkably quickly, and we’ll never leave you with wet flooring! We hope you choose this method- we know you won’t regret it!

Cleaning 101 from The Steam Team of Austin Texas

Spring Cleaning Austin TX

Spring Cleaning Austin TX

Having both carpets and upholstery professionally cleaned can make quite a difference in your home. Not only is everything clean and sanitized, but pairing these two chores does wonders for brightening up your environment! Below you’ll find a few simple ways to clean and care for your upholstered furniture- so hopefully while we’re out to clean your carpet, we can tackle your upholstery, as well!

Avoid Placing Upholstered Furniture in Direct Sunlight

Direct sunlight can be harmful to our furniture, as it causes the fabric to fade and discolor. Avoid placing upholstery near bright, sunny windows, and rotate cushions periodically.

Vacuum to Remove Dust, Crumbs, Etc

Especially if you have children, crumbs seem to find their way into every crevice of the couch. Even if you vacuum the surface of your upholstered furniture, you’ll often have to remove cushions to get t

o the root of the issue. You certainly don’t want ants and other “creepy crawlies,” feeling attracted to your couches and loveseats…

Clean Stains- Spot Test First!

When it comes to your precious (expensive…) furniture, it’s better to be safe than sorry. With any cleaning solution it’s best to perform a spot test before moving forward. Test an inconspicuous area of the furniture first (on the bottom, or backside of the piece) to make sure that the solution is appropriate. And of course, don’t waste your time with solutions that aren’t made specifically for upholstered furniture.

When in Doubt, Call the Steam Team

The Steam Team can help by treating your upholstery with a fabric protectant! We strongly encourage our customers to contact us about how they can preserve their beautiful, treasured pieces of furniture and keep stains, pets, and traffic from damaging their appearance. Not only does our fabric protectant help to resist spills, but it also protects against ultraviolet radiation. So don’t hesitate to give us a call today! Our phone number can be found here
