The Right and Wrong Ways To Treat Clean

Top CLeaning Companies to work

When you have a home of your own, there’s a lot of cleaning to keep up with, and sometimes people overlook certain areas of the home. One of the most commonly overlooked areas are drapes. So that begs the question, is your drapery properly cleaned?

The Wrong Way

You might be wondering why you should even bother to have your drapes cleaned at all. In fact, many people simply throw out old drapery that starts to show early signs of deterioration or dirt. But there’s a significant fact that some people overlook; the cost of drapery cleaning is far less than the cost of replacing the draperies altogether. Every two to four years, depending on various conditions in the home, drapery will start to show signs of soil. But if you have your drapes professionally cleaned about every two years or so, you could triple the lifespan of your drapes.

The Right Way

The main reason we suggest professional drapery cleaning is that the materials used to make most drapes actually cannot be cleaned in a regular laundry machine. But when you call in The Steam Team, our professional and highly trained technicians will inspect the drapes to determine the exact cleaning method appropriate for your specific material. They may use either a dry cleaning process or a low moisture hot water extraction method to completely clean your drapes. Even the most delicate of fabrics will receive the proper care from our technicians. All soil and stains will be lifted from the drapery and they will be fully dried in minutes.

The Steam Team

Hopefully we’ve shown you that you can save that old fabric rather than having to throw it out. Our professional technicians are always ready for your call. For more information on our many other services, visit The Steam Team website.

Maintaining Your Leather Like a Pro

Voted Best Cleaners In Austin by the Austin American Statesman

Though many people think of it as a luxury material, leather can actually be quite easy to maintain and keep clean if you know how. Here at The Steam Team, we’ve been working with leather for years, showing people how to properly clean and maintain it so that it lasts far beyond your neighbor’s leather. Now we want to teach you how to maintain your leather like a pro!

Knowing Your Leather

The first step to giving your leather the right care is knowing exactly what kind of leather you’re working with. That’s right, leather isn’t just leather! There are actually four main types of leather, each requiring slightly different care. Mushroom leather has no protective film over it, so be careful abou spills and don’t use any water for cleaning it. Instead, lightly brush it with a soft wool fabric. With suede leather, use a soft nylon brush or lightweight sandpaper to remove stains. With Hair-on leather, you can gently vacuum or dust it with a dry cloth to maintain it. With Full Grain leather, use a lightly damp cloth with warm water, but don’t scrub too roughly.

General Maintenance

Keeping in mind your different types of leather, maintaining them day to day is very easy. When it comes to spills, clean them up quickly with the preferred method for your type of leather. Don’t use any standard house cleaners or spray bottles of chemicals that you may use on other surfaces. There’s a high chance that these chemicals could damage or dry out the leather. It's also recommended that you keep your leather out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, or it could dry out quicker.

The Steam Team

When your leather does eventually dry out, it will need to be conditioned with oils to keep it vibrant and beautiful. Here at The Steam Team we have a service that does just that! It’s recommended that you have your leather conditioned at least once per year, so if you haven’t done it this year what are you waiting for? Give us a call! Everything You Need to Know About Refinishing Hardwood Floors

Hardwood flooring can last for centuries, literally, if properly cared for and maintained over the years. This requires refinishing hardwoods at some point or another- and if you’re finding yourself in this position- then, this guide is for you. On today’s blog, we’ve put together everything you need to know about refinishing those hardwood floors.

Before You Begin

The thickness of the flooring is extremely important. If you have flooring that is ¼ inch thick (or less), it’s not advised to refinish. You might wear through the floor without being able to refinish at all. Instead, this would call for replacing your floors. However, if you have thick hardwoods, you’re in luck! It’s important to check the entire floor first. If there are any gaps in the floor where nails are visible, it’s time to call in the professionals. If not, get ready!

Cleaning And Sanding

First, clean the floor thoroughly, removing as much dirt and debris as possible. Make sure there are no protruding nail heads that could tear the sandpaper. Cover up any doors or areas of the house that dust could fly into while you’re sanding. Then, attach a 20-grit sandpaper to your sander and begin sanding the entire floor thoroughly. Go over your work again with the edge sander, and finally with a power buffer. After you’ve sanded the entire floor three times, use an industrial-grade vacuum to get rid of the dust particles.

The Finish

Now that you’re done sanding and cleaning, it’s time for the big finish. Choose whatever sealant you prefer for the job, and start applying it all around the perimeter of the room. While DIY’s can often be effective and save you money, it’s also important to remember that no one can do the job quite like The Steam Team!
